Donna Strickland, MA, LPC
Meet Donna
Donna’s therapeutic approach is integrative and based in mindfulness, not primarily as a skill, but as a way of grounding therapy in the present moment and providing a holding environment for deeply investigating causes and conditions of suffering. A relational/attachment-oriented psychodynamic perspective ultimately frames all that she does: she endeavors to provide a secure base for clients’ exploration, to encourage their compassionate curiosity about themselves and their backgrounds, and to support them in coming to better understand and identify their needs. To further her knowledge of psychodynamic approaches, she has completed multiple years in intensive training programs, one in Advanced Psychodynamic Psychotherapy at the St. Louis Psychoanalytic Institute and one in Relational Theory and Clinical Practice with the Stephen Mitchell Relational Study Center in New York City. She is currently pursuing training as a psychoanalyst at the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis.
As a relational therapist, Donna recognizes that everything from a person’s external environment impacts their internal experience and is thus deeply committed to a social justice perspective. She has also worked in a full-model DBT program and has training in EMDR, ACT, and Compassion-Focused Therapy. These behavioral and somatic interventions supplement and support the more exploratory work that she does with clients. Donna particularly enjoys working with clients on relationship concerns, times of transition, and attachment trauma. She completed an MA in Counseling Psychology at the University of Missouri and is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Missouri.
