Elizabeth Buko, PLPC

Meet Elizabeth

Elizabeth graduated with her Masters of Education in Counseling at Stephens College in December 2022. She has spent nearly twenty years in secondary school education teaching English and working with adolescents on career and college planning.  Observing the trend of increasing stress, anxiety, and depression in teens, she decided to make the transition into clinical counseling work to better meet the social and emotional needs of young people.

Elizabeth is a member of the LGBTQIA community, and she strives to offer an inclusive and safe space for people of all ages to explore their intersectional identities. She works from a Feminist theoretical orientation that’s client-centered and considerate of cultural contexts. Elizabeth works to bring awareness to the social constructs that can interfere with each person’s path to truly knowing themselves. She believes that societal expectations play a direct role in the formation of our identities, especially with regards to nondominant members. Cognitive Behavioral Theory is a part of her work operating on the belief that our childhood experiences have a direct impact on how we function in the world. She believes that the cognitions or thinking patterns that we form in childhood and adolescence become the ways we function as adults.
